Mom of Seattle police officer here. On Saturday, and to a lesser degree yesterday, "protesters" attacked a police line, separating them from a rally by a Christian (and anti-gay) church gathering. Eight hours of praise songs, apparently. One officer went to the hospital with a head injury. Rather than framing these incidents as an attack on free speech and law enforcement, the mayor decried the Christian right-wing message. Hopefully, there isn't traction for another summer of this stuff. Interestingly, and depressingly, the chant of the protesters was "IDF, KKK, SPD, all the same" and many wore keffiyeh's.
This doesn't contradict the major premise of your article, which seems accurate to me.
Wow, what a fascinating analysis! I would agree with it. And I guess I need to learn to use ChatGPT better!
Seattle lost maybe 500 officers may of whom transferred to adjacent or nearby agencies. Or retired. I think some younger ones probably found other careers. I am sure that morale was pretty low, cops were afraid of how they would be treated with proactive policing. I think things are getting somewhat better. Murder rate has gone down some this year, I believe.

Saw that - did you see Seattle cited along w Austin in the Guardian article I cited which flat out ignored huge murder spike prompted by defunding/ https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2025/may/24/defund-police-movement-austin-seattle
I cant spell (quite shamefully) but I put this article through ChatGPT and we both determined it came up short as news https://chatgpt.com/share/68374c1b-28a8-8007-9b7f-704daba43a5a
