I have posted this idea before, but I think that someone like Steven Colbert should find a sympathetic ICE professional to talk about how hard the job is and to urge his fellow workers not to wear masks and fall into the "prison guard" mentaliity. Perhaps have Obama on as a guest and talk about how (relatively) less confrontations there were when even more people were deported in his administration. Nothing good can come of treating ICE as if they were the SS so thoroughly, that they come to internalize that themselves. It is a hard thankless job that someone has to do, and the difference between slight inefficient reasonable and inhumane behavior won't skew the numbers. It is hard to put a human face on ICE agents when we don't see their faces. But their job is a lot tougher than you think it is and they are our legal representatives.

As Dear Leader ramps up ICE until it is bigger and more militarized than most other countries, some unfortunate events may well come to pass.

First, ICE officers are not local police, like our city and/or state forces. So, they're not part of our communities. They are literally strangers, an invading force, hiding behind masks. When they act like they do, they cause many of us to view them as the enemy, NOT as our legal representatives. And it turns out, they DO seem to be more enemy than someone doing my work.

Second, are they truly our "Legal" representatives if what they do often appears to be only marginally legal, at best? And ethically?? Sending folks who are here "legally" to places like Sudan?? Violating the clear language of the Bill of RIghts??

Finally, it won't take much, given their behavior and the ambience they generate when they attack, for real violence to break out. I know that that is what Trump wants, so he can declare martial law. But then? Dear god. It's on. And these guys become the front line of the "Brown Shirts."

And all that has to happen is to dial it back, and they could go about their business in relative peace. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And really dangerous.

Parmesan from Wisconsin?

Yes! according to Italian Professor Alberto Grandi. In 2023 he gave an interview to the Financial Times, March 22, 2023, that led to an explosion of reactions sending Italy into outrage and sparking a polemic that reached all the way to the top of the government: 'Everything I, an Italian, Thought I Knew About Italian Food is Wrong' - https://www.ft.com/content/6ac009d5-dbfd-4a86-839e-28bb44b2b64c

Your comment on the difference in coverage re the “benign” ICE strolls through MacArthur Park (to see if the cake is still out in the rain) versus the sickening ambush in Texas misses one crucial point, I.e., the ambush in Texas was the work of one or a few twisted individuals (afforded the benefits of the Supreme Court’s twisted interpretation of the Second Amendment) while the Los Angeles ICE patrols represent the camel’s nose under the tent of federal government’s masked rousting of brown folks. Note the Trump’s administration’s temper tantrum because a judge has ruled that such stops must be based on probable cause. Troubling actions by the government, however anodyne in the particular, are worthy of widespread media coverage when they reflect a developing pattern.

The big beautiful bill also protects officials from having to obey judicial orders. I’d add a photo of the part that says this. This means that the Trump regime can send anyone to a prison anywhere for any reason and the courts will be able to do nothing about it. Is that the America we want to live in?

If you ask the vast majority of Trump voters what kind of country they want to live in, they are struck dumb. In both meanings of the word. They have no concept of anything below the most superficial.

We are on different sides of the is good that NPR may do with the federal funding worth 19 more how does this impact trans First Nation midgets takes on the decline in fast food sales articles. Tone at the top matters and they have made it clear who they want to lead them, and the 50+ percent of the country that voted for trump along with a lot of nonvoters I would bet don't think that their choice warrants our money. Let the LA, Seattle, Boston, and NY stations pay their own way as they are the only one's with any material number of listeners anyway.
