Libertarians might be annoying, at least according to Katherine Mangu-Ward, but are they right? Today, I bring you a clip of Not Even Mad with guests Nick Gillespie and John Ganz debating the topic, while simultaneously upholding our vow to be not to be not even mad.
According to Nick, libertarians have LONG warned about the dangers of government overreach, and Trump proves the point. He also admits that he underestimated Trump and that he is much worse than he anticipated, although he doesn’t think he’s an aberration so much as he has fit the broader pattern that Bush, Obama, and Biden also participated in.
But John feels like Libertarians aren’t consistent on Trump. The president has always been anti-trade, anti-immigration, and authoritarian in tone. He argues that there are two flavors of libertarianism: The principled version espoused by policy thinkers and the reactionary kind that aligned with Trump.
